The majority of us know how important it is to our overall health and well being to have regular eye tests, no matter how old or young we are. What the majority of us don’t know though is how to choose the right eye glasses for our faces.

The secret to choosing eye glasses that suit is all down to defining your face shape and then selecting the glasses for that shape. Here is a guide to help you.

Oblong face shape – this face shape is longer than it is wide with a long straight cheek line and longish nose. If you have this face shape you should opt for aviator framed glasses that will make your face appear shorter and wider.

Diamond face shape – this face is narrow at the eye line and jawline with broad high cheek bones. The best glasses for this shaped face are top heavy frames such as semi-rimless. These draw attention to the eye area creating more width and balance to your face.

Square – this face shape has a broad deep forehead with wide jaw line and square chin. Oval or round frame glasses will suit this shape face best as they soften the jaw line.

Heart – this face shape has a broad forehead with wide cheek bones that narrow to a small chin. Rectangular or oval glasses suit this face shape as they emphasize it.

Triangle – this face shape has a broad forehead and wide cheek bones that narrow to a small chin. Frames that are wider at the bottom and lighter in color will suit this face shape. Try trimless frame styles for example.

Oval – this face shape is well balanced being softly rounded with a forehead that is slightly wider than the jaw line. This face curves softly and cheek bones are high. This lucky face shape should suit any style glasses they care to choose.

Round – this face shape is fairly short with a wide forehead, full cheeks and a rounded chin. A rectangular frame will make this face slimmer and longer.

Now you have all the face shapes and glasses to suit- all you need to do is look in the mirror and decide which face shape you have. Done that? Well get yourself across to Eye Wear Unlimited and choose your perfect pair.

Can Drinking Coffee Help Your Vision?

We here at Eye Wear Unlimited care about your most precious gift- your eyesight. From the services we offer to the tests we provide your vision is our primary goal. To that end, we make it a point to stay on top of the latest medical finding relating to eye care and sight. So it was with great excitement that we heard about a new study linking coffee to eye health. The study conducted by Korean and American researchers found that coffee can help cure and prevent retinal degeneration. Coffee in its raw form has just 1% caffeine, and has as much as 7% to 9% chlorogenic acid. This is a strong antioxidant that improves eye health and functions and was shown help to prevent retinal degeneration in lab mice. This study was published in its entirety in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

To better understand how coffee impact retina health it is time for some basic human biology. The retina is a thin tissue layer that is located on the back wall of the eye. It is lined with millions of light-sensitive cells along with nerve cells that are responsible for the receiving and organizing of all visual information sent to and from the brain. It is one of the most metabolically active tissues and needs constant and high levels of oxygen. The lack of oxygen and pother damage that occurs over time leads to tissue damage and vision impairment and loss. Retinal degeneration is a common side effect to conditions such as aging, eye injury, glaucoma, and diabetes.

According to a report by USA Today, the study is “important in understanding functional foods, that is, natural foods that provide beneficial health effects,” Chang Lee, professor of food science and the study’s senior author, said in a statement. “Coffee is the most popular drink in the world, and we are understanding what benefit we can get from that.”

Previous studies have been conducted on the potential health benefits of coffee consumption and several have shown that coffee may actually help to cut the risk of diseases like Parkinson’s, several types of cancer, type I and II diabetes, Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline due to ageing. However, what is not known is whether drinking coffee will deliver the chlorogenic acid directly to the retina in strong enough amounts to be a cure. Future studies are already being planned to try and discover how to get stronger concentrations of chlorogenicacid to the retina, and this could lead to the development of eye drops using coffee and chlorogenic acid or the development of a coffee brew made especially for eye and vision health.

We here at Eye Wear Unlimited are excited about this new breakthrough and look forward to bringing you more updates and new discoveries as they pertain to your eye and vision health.
